As Communications Manager, Karen King develops and implements communications strategies that enhance project team effectiveness and communicate project goals to external stakeholders. She also serves as a point of contact for media inquiries, represents FRIB to external audiences, and produces graphics and print material for reviews and public events.
Karen has more than 13 years of progressively more responsible communications experience in the areas of internal and external communications, strategic communications planning, website development, media relations, event planning, and social media outreach. She worked in newspapers for five years before joining Michigan State University’s Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF) unit in 2006. Her journalism experience involved all facets of newspaper production – from reporting and writing to photography to editing to page design. At IPF, Karen developed the unit’s Communications department from the ground up. Her team overhauled the unit’s website to improve communications with campus customers, developed an Intranet to enhance internal communications within IPF, and advanced the use of social media in facilities communications.
Karen has contributed to a number of university-level initiatives, which include establishing MSU’s “Be Spartan Green” environmental stewardship campaign and monthly Construction Junction public information meetings.
Karen is a 2001 graduate of Michigan State University with a BA in journalism.
