Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan10 Aug 2009 - 9:00 amraman@nscl.msu.edu
With the signing of the cooperative agreement between the Department of Energy and Michigan State University, alternatives analysis for FRIB is underway. Hence, this is an important time for users to develop plans for experimental equipment and to join collaborations.
To encourage and support collaborations, arrangements have been made to facilitate collaboration meetings among FRIB users in East Lansing, Michigan on Monday August 10, immediately following the ATLAS User Workshop at Argonne, Illinois on August 8-9 and preceding the NSCL User Workshop in East Lansing that starts on the evening of August 10 and continues all day August 11.
The current list of groups planning to meet is given below.
- The AT-TPC collaboration will meet in the NSCL Nuclear Conference Room, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., to discuss the scientific program and technical implementation of the Active Target-Time Projection Chamber. All interested parties are welcome to attend. Further details and registration information can be found at: www.nscl.msu.edu/~bickley/ATTPCWorkshop09/. Contact: Abigail Bickley, phone: 517-908-7480, email: bickley@nscl.msu.edu.
- A nuclear astrophysics session will be held in BPS room 1420, 1 to 5 p.m. Contact: Hendrik Schatz, phone: 517-908-7397, email: schatz@nscl.msu.edu.
- There will be a session devoted to an Isochronous Spectrometer with Large Acceptance (ISLA) in BPS room 1400, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.. It will focus on technical details as well as the numerous experimental opportunities provided by such a device for the low-energy reaccelerated radioactive beams of up to 12 MeV/nucleon that will be available at FRIB. Contact: Daniel Bazin, 517-908-7422, email: bazin@nscl.msu.edu.
- A session on High Rigidity Spectrometer in BPS room 1400, 2 to 5 p.m., will examine the operation of the S800 spectrometer at FRIB, and in particular its performance in combination with a gamma-ray detector array to filter and identify high-rigidity neutron-rich reaction products close to the drip lines. It will also explore the efficiency gains to be realized by using an optimized high-acceptance, modest-resolution zero-degree spectrometer instead. Contact: Daniel Bazin, 517-908-7422, email: bazin@nscl.msu.edu.
- Representatives of the GRETINA project and its future users will be available in the NSCL East Conference Room, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., to present the current status and plans for GRETINA/GRETA, and their possible use with other experimental equipment that may be constructed for FRIB. Contact: David Radford, 865-241-5332, email: radforddc@ornl.gov.
- Representatives of the MoNA collaboration will be available in NSCL room W209 (Michael Thoennessen's office), 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., to discuss the current status and plans for the device, and its possible use with other experimental equipment that may be constructed for FRIB. Contact: Michael Thoennessen, 517-908-7323, email: thoennessen@nscl.msu.edu.
- A session on Applications of Isotopes in the NSCL Nuclear Theory Library, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will include a discussion of possible applications, techniques for online harvesting, and other facility requirements. Contact: Brad Sherrill, 517-908-7322, email: sherrill@nscl.msu.edu.
Researchers interested in holding a meeting on this date, or otherwise forming or joining an FRIB collaboration, should write to summer09_frib_collab@frib.msu.edu.
Blocks of rooms have been reserved at three areas hotels near Michigan State University for the nights of August 9, 10, and 11. If you are interested in attending the FRIB collaboration meeting and/or the NSCL User Workshop, you can make hotel reservation yourself by calling any of the hotel phone numbers listed here or else you can contact Raman at the e-mail address given above. We also request that you register for this event.
