Al Zeller, FRIB Associate Project Manager

The FRIB Associate Project Manager supports the establishment and attainment of project cost, scope, and schedule for successful delivery of FRIB.

Dr. Zeller served as head of the Research Facilities Department at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) at MSU for almost 20 years. During that time, his department was responsible for the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of the beam transport lines, vacuum systems, cryogenics systems, magnets, nuclear electronics, and detectors. He coordinated and led several major upgrade projects including the 2007 reconfiguration of the high-energy beamline and experimental equipment into the configuration that will be used for FRIB.

His professional interests have focused on superconducting magnets and radiation resistant magnets. He served as conference chair of the 1999 Cryogenic Engineering Conference, the 2006 Applied Superconductivity Conference and is chair of the 2011 Cryogenic Engineering Conference. He is a member of the American Physical Society and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

Dr. Zeller received his Ph.D in 1974 from Florida State University.
