Author of ‘Superheavy’ to speak at FRIB Laboratory on 9 October

Kit Chapman, author of Superheavy: Making and Breaking the Periodic Table, will give a seminar at the FRIB Laboratory on 9 October.

Chapman is a science journalist and broadcaster. He began his career at the medical journal “The Practitioner.” His has been named PTC New Business News Journalist of the Year and has received award nominations from the British Society of Magazine Editors and Professional Publishers Association. Chapman is the comment editor for “Chemistry World,” the official magazine of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and writes for the “Daily Telegraph” and “Sunday Telegraph.” He has appeared as an expert on the BBC and Sky News television channels.

“Superheavy” explains the complex science of element discovery. It walks through the theories of atomic structure, discusses the equipment used, and explains the purpose of the research. Chapman interviewed Witek Nazarewicz, Hannah Distinguished Professor of Physics and chief scientist at FRIB, in the book.

Chapman will speak about his book and research at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday, 9 October, in room 1200 at the FRIB Laboratory (640 S. Shaw Lane).
