FRIB First Experiments: Proposal Preparation Workshop set for 4-8 May online

12 March 2020

The FRIB First Experiments: Proposal Preparation Workshop 4-8 May has moved to an online format due to the COVID-19 situation.

The workshop is an opportunity for users to obtain support in preparing proposals for consideration by the first FRIB Program Advisory Committee. The first FRIB Call for Proposal is slated to occur this fall. In order to help prepare users, online presentations will be available using Zoom video-conference software.

Users are welcome to join any session, but should register and note working-group preferences. Registration remains open on the workshop website. Visit the website for updates and a schedule of presentations.

Presentations currently planned are:

  • General information for FRIB users
  • Expectations for FRIB users
  • FRIB status
  • Rare isotope beam rates and purity at FRIB
  • Expected day-one FRIB experimental facilities with presentations from working group conveners
  • Elements of a successful FRIB proposal to the first Program Advisory Committee

Contact organizers through the workshop website to suggest additional topics.

Organizers intend to hold an in-person portion of the workshop this fall, pending the COVID-19 situation. Attendees will be able to meet in person with FRIB staff to work out experimental details.  An overlapping FRIB Theory Alliance program and Joint Institute for Nuclear Astrophysics - Center for the Evolution of the Elements (JINA-CEE) program is planned to offer the opportunity to work with nuclear- and astro-theorists.
