As chief planning officer, Rae Benington has the responsibility to exercise broad management judgment consistent with the laboratory director’s guidance in coordinating various project functional areas to ensure successful project delivery. She supports the technical construction phase, the transition of FRIB to operations, and the integration of the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory.
Rae brings 12 years of project management and analysis experience to FRIB. She started her career in the private sector in New York City, where she held positions in project management in the financial industry and as director of operations in the technology industry. She returned to her native Michigan in 2012 when she came to MSU.
Since joining FRIB, she has managed the project cost and schedule and supported the completion of accelerator systems, experimental systems, and conventional facilities scope through design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and operations.
Rae holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and public policy studies from Duke University.
