FRIB maintains management systems registered by NSF International Strategic Registrations (NSF-ISR) to the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and ISO 45001 standards. 

ISO 9001 Quality Management System Policy

FRIB has been registered to ISO 9001 since 2008. Through a strategy of continual improvement and teamwork, the FRIB Laboratory is dedicated to delivering primary and secondary rare isotope beams to the experiment, and to delivering projects on schedule, within budget, safely, and with high quality, to enable our scientific users to achieve their objectives.

The foundation for achieving our policy goals is based on: 

  • understanding and meeting the requirements of our customers, 
  • continuously improving our processes, 
  • effectively utilizing the creative talents of our employees, and 
  • meeting statutory, regulatory, and all other requirements.

ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Policy

FRIB has been registered to ISO 14001 since 2006. All laboratory personnel, users, contractors working on site, and visitors are responsible to adhere to the following principles:

  • Environment: FRIB protects the environment, conserves resources, and strives to prevent pollution.

ISO 27001 Information Security Management System Policy

FRIB has been registered to ISO 27001 since 2018. “The Business IT Department shall provide information technology services that preserve the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information in support of the laboratory’s mission.” All laboratory personnel, users, contractors working on site, and visitors are responsible to adhere to the Information Security Policy.

The general objective for the information security management system is to deliver secure and reliable information technology services.

ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Policy

FRIB has been registered to OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 since 2007. All laboratory personnel, users, contractors working on site, and visitors are responsible to adhere to the following principles:

  • Safety: FRIB maintains a safe workplace; all personnel plan and perform their work safely. FRIB works within predetermined controls designed to prevent injuries and incidents. FRIB takes responsibility for the safety of employees, coworkers, visitors, and guests.
  • Health: FRIB protects human health within its boundaries and in the surrounding community.

In achieving the policy goals, FRIB commits to:

  • Compliance: Compliance with all applicable environment, safety, and health requirements.
  • Transparency: Maintaining open, proactive and constructive relationships with its employees, users, campus communities, neighbors, regulators, funding agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Continual improvement: Improving environment, safety, and health management and performance through a framework of setting and reviewing environment, safety, and health objectives and targets.
