Separator for Capture Reactions
The Separator for Capture Reactions (SECAR) will be a recoil separator at FRIB that is optimized for measurements of capture reactions of importance for nuclear astrophysics.
SECAR takes advantage of the ReA3 re-accelerator that provides unique radioactive beams at low astrophysical energies. SECAR measurements will address open questions related to extreme astrophysical sites, including including novae, x-ray bursts, supernovae, and supermassive stars. SECAR is currently under construction with joint support from the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, Office of Nuclear Physics, and the National Science Foundation. Learn more at the SECAR website.
