About FRIB
The FRIB Laboratory draws on expertise from U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC) national laboratories, universities, and external partners to expand what’s possible—leveraging specialized knowledge to enhance FRIB’s capabilities and maximize its impact.
National laboratories
These collaborations are facilitated by 24 strategic partnership project agreements (formerly known as work for others agreements) with seven DOE-SC national laboratories.
- Argonne National Laboratory (ANL)
- Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL)
- Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL)
- Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab)
- Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)
- Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)
- Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab)
Association for Research at University Nuclear
Accelerators
The Association for Research at University Nuclear Accelerators (ARUNA) laboratories play a key role in the broader FRIB network, connecting research and education across universities that operate their own accelerators. ARUNA comprises 13 university-based accelerator laboratories across the United States. These labs provide early hands-on experience with accelerator science, drawing undergraduate students into the field and often serving as a first step on the pathway to further involvement with FRIB.
FRIB Users Organization
The FRIB Users Organization (FRIBUO) is an independent scientific user organization of scientists, postdoctoral research associates, and graduate students from universities, national laboratories, and industry who perform experiments at FRIB. The FRIB user community includes 1,800 scientists, with 1,116 (61%) in the U.S. Members are from 133 colleges and universities, 13 U.S. national laboratories, and 51 countries.
