Radiochemistry Symposium Held

BOSTON, MA -- A symposium entitled "Radiochemistry at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams" was held in conjunction with the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston, MA.

Mark Stoyer (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory) and Paul Mantica (Michigan State University) organized the three half-day sessions through the Division of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology. The goals of the symposium were to summarize the present status of isotope production in the US and explore the impact isotope harvesting at FRIB may have on applied research programs. A total of 19 presentations were given by isotope producers and end users from government and academia. At the conclusion of each session, round-table discussions were held to address broad-based questions on DOE isotope production plans, the education of future isotope users, and the research v. clinic use of isotopes in medical applications.

Research about isotope shortage for medical imaging was also presented at the meeting.
