In its fourth decadal survey of nuclear physics, the National Research Council (NRC) outlines the impressive accomplishments of the field in the last decade and recommends a long-term strategy for the future including as its first recommendation "the timely completion of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams and the initiation of its physics program."

The report, available from The National Academies Press(link is external), reaffirms the Nuclear Science Advisory Committee's 2007 five-year plan.

The report was released publicly today with two videos prepared in conjunction with the report to illustrate several of its main ideas.  The videos articulate the scientific rationale and objectives for nuclear physics, placing near-term goals in a broader international context.

Michigan State University (MSU) operates the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) as a user facility for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science(link is external) (DOE SC), with financial support from and furthering the mission of the DOE‑SC Office of Nuclear Physics. FRIB is registered to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and ISO 45001.
