The first FRIB superconducting β=0.085 cryomodule was installed in its final position in FRIB’s linear accelerator tunnel on 1 November. After being lowered through the access shaft, and moved through the tunnel, the cryomodule was inserted into its near-final position and placed on adjustable stands. The alignment group then conducted an initial survey to ensure it aligned in the exact position needed for the beam to run as designed.

The mechanical and electrical groups are now working on the cryomodule’s final alignment and connections of power, controls, and other services. Once completed, the cryomodule is now locked into its final position where it will be cooled down with liquid helium in 2018 and then be ready to accelerate beam in FRIB’s linear accelerator.
