Update (3/18/20): In light of the evolving COVID-19 situation, the International Conference on Women in Physics has been postponed to 2021. The conference’s local organizing committee is looking to reschedule the conference in July 2021.

Artemis Spyrou, professor of physics at FRIB and the MSU Department of Physics and Astronomy, was selected to be a member of the U.S. delegation to the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) Seventh International Conference on Women in Physics. The conference will be held 13-17 July 2020 in Melbourne, Australia.

IUPAP holds the conference every three years. Its purpose is to develop and implement strategies to increase women's participation in the physics community.

Delegates have a three-year commitment to promote women’s participation in physics. That role includes:

• helping to write a U.S. country paper summarizing the status of women in physics in the United States,
• attending the conference,
• participating in video conferences,
• developing research posters and papers,
• assisting with training workshops,
• and presenting on issues of women and physics at different venues.

This is an opportunity to be part of an international community that empowers women in physics, and showcases their scientific achievements to the world. I look forward to collaborating with the other members of the U.S. delegation on this important topic.”
