Workers have started to pour the mud mat in the east end of the excavation for the FRIB tunnel. The mud mat is the first step in waterproofing the tunnel. It serves as a flat base for supporting the waterproofing of the structural concrete. This is the start of the first of eight mats that will eventually cover the bottom of the excavation.
