FRIB hosts President Yongmin Kim of POSTECH

On August 11, FRIB hosted President Yongmin Kim of the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), in Pohang, South Korea. President Kim spent a day at Michigan State University, meeting with several MSU faculty members and executive leaders. At FRIB, Laboratory Director Thomas Glasmacher met with President Kim and provided a tour of the laboratory.

POSTECH was founded in 1986, and has been ranked near the top of the Times Higher Education “100 Under 50” list of universities under 50 years old. POSTECH offers undergraduate as well as graduate programs in four science and seven engineering departments, and interdisciplinary programs in related fields.

Pohang Light Source (PLS-II), the third generation light source at POSTECH, is the only synchrotron radiation accelerator in Korea. Currently under construction, and scheduled to be operational in 2016, is the fourth generation light source (PAL-XFEL).
