FRIB hosts the vice-chancellor of the University of Pretoria

On 12 December, FRIB hosted representatives from the University of Pretoria (UP) in South Africa. The visitors included Dr. Tawana Kupe, professor of media studies and vice-chancellor of UP. FRIB Deputy Laboratory Director Paul Mantica met with the group and gave them a tour of the facility.

Dr. Kupe was visiting Michigan State University (MSU) to receive an honorary doctorate of humanities and to speak at the advanced-degree commencement ceremony.

In addition to Dr. Kupe, the FRIB visitors included:

  • Simisani Kupe, founder and managing director of Africa Rising Capital,
  • Jose Jackson-Malete, co-director of MSU’s Alliance for African Partnership,
  • Cheikh Mbow, director of the Future Africa Campus at UP.
