Staff members from eleven of Michigan's federal congressional offices were updated on the FRIB Project's status on Monday.
FRIB Project Manager Thomas Glasmacher briefed the group on research capabilities FRIB will provide to scientists and benefits of rare isotope research in the areas of medicine, energy, and homeland security. He also reported that the project is on schedule, anticipating the start of civil construction in spring 2012 and project completion in 2018, dependent on funding. A laboratory tour followed the presentation, where staffers observed the facility and staff that will continue to conduct world-leading research until FRIB comes on line later this decade.
FRIB was the first stop on a three-day tour of the University Research Corridor, a research consortium founded by Michigan State University, Wayne State University, and the University of Michigan.
