The superconducting radio frequency (SRF) design (i.e. the cold mass, which is primarily cavity, tuner, and coupler) was evaluated by a peer review committee this week and found to be consistent with FRIB Project requirements and final deliverables.
The review committee included Sébastien Bousson from the Institute of Nuclear Physics of Orsay (France), Michael Kelly from Argonne National Laboratory, Bob Laxdal from TRIUMF (Canada), and John Mammosser from Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. Kenji Saito from KEK (Japan) and Yoshishige Yamazaki from J-PARC (Japan) were observers. The committee examined the consistency between the SRF design and FRIB cost and schedule projection and resource estimates. They also reviewed the systematic plan, including diagnostics and schedule, for designing, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and assembling the FRIB SRF cavities.
The committee found the SRF team, with the sustained effort shown since spring, is on track to support development of a project baseline by the end of calendar year 2011.
