Recently, two of the first FRIB-style superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities were processed in the SRF Highbay, marking a significant milestone toward FRIB preparedness.

Involved in this process was the validation of both new and existing processing equipment, including a chemical-etching system procured from a leading producer of custom-designed chemical distribution systems, and an expansive new cleanroom. Upon testing one of the SRF cavities, it was discovered that, thanks in part to the amenities of the new processing building, the cavity had smashed a performance record, and far exceeded the FRIB specification for SRF cavities of this type.

The SRF Highbay is a state-of-the art processing facility that MSU funded to help prepare components for FRIB.
