FRIB's Kyle Godbey receives MSU Postdoctoral Excellence in Research Award

20 April 2023

Kyle Godbey, a research assistant professor at FRIB, has been named as a recipient of a Michigan State University (MSU) Postdoctoral Excellence in Research Award (PERA).

Godbey’s research at FRIB explores nuclear physics through the use of microscopic models. Godbey’s primary focus is investigating the dynamics of heavy nuclei and how they play a role in phenomena at scales spanning from nuclear reactions to neutron stars. This work sits at the intersection of nuclear theory, computational statistics, and high-performance computing and places a strong emphasis on open science principles and accessibility.

Godbey has a bachelor’s degree in physics from Berea College and a master’s degree and PhD (both in physics) from Vanderbilt University.

PERAs are offered annually for outstanding productivity and success in research while at MSU. The recognition is awarded based on self-nomination with recommendations by mentors, followed by peer review.

Godbey was recognized at a ceremony on 20 April.
